Retail Rescue
It was a crisp Sunday morning in August 2025, and I was hitting the pavement with my half-marathon training team. I found myself running alongside Mary, one of our coaches and an absolute legend in the running world. We’re talking about someone who has conquered all six of the premier SuperHalfs in Europe—she knows a thing or two about endurance.
Naturally, I was picking her brain for race tips, but I was also moving a little slow. I’d been up late the night before deep in the code for PortaDash, and the "developer fatigue" was definitely kicking in.
When Mary asked what I’d been working on, I told her about the app. Her eyes lit up immediately. It turns out, even elite marathoners have "the story."
The Retail Shop Rescue
Mary shared a survival story from one of her own high-intensity training runs. She was miles from home when the "internal countdown" started. You know the one—where every stride feels like a gamble.
She scanned the area, but there wasn't a public restroom in sight. In a moment of pure desperation, she ducked into a local retail shop. Her heart sank when she saw the sign on the wall: "Restrooms for Customers Only."
She didn't have time to browse the aisles. But as Mary says, her face spoke the language of urgency louder than any words could. The shop owner took one look at her and, seeing the genuine distress, waved her toward the back.
A Token of Appreciation
Mary finished her training that day, but she couldn't stop thinking about that small act of grace. It wasn't just about a bathroom; it was about someone seeing a neighbor in a tough spot and helping out.
Later that afternoon, Mary didn't just go home to recover. She bought a vibrant bunch of flowers, drove back to the shop, and presented them to the owner. It was a simple "thank you" for a gesture that saved her run—and her dignity.
Why We Build This
This is exactly why we’re building PortaDash. It’s about more than just finding a toilet; it’s about the camaraderie and kindness that exists in our community.
Whether it's a shop owner bending the rules for a runner in need or a parent sharing a "hidden gem" location in the app, these stories of "bathroom adventures" remind us that we’re all in this together.
Have you ever had a "Retail Rescue"? We want to hear your stories! Head over to the [Community Page] and share your most wholesome (or harrowing) bathroom survival story.
Stay moving, stay grateful, and—as always—stay close to a five-star flush! 🐾
